Johnny loved books. At home, they had a library room, which was filled with floor to ceiling bookshelves. The ones that have the little sliding ladders attached. It was where Johnny usually spent most of his time. There was just something wonderful and satisfying about reading. About getting caught up in different worlds. Or even non-fiction. Learning was surprisingly fun to Johnny, and he always relished the times when they were given reading material as homework in school.
Flourish and Blotts was definitely one of his favourite shops. He loved the old-fashioned feel of it all. What, with the crooked shelves, and the dark wood everywhere, and the sense that hundreds of years worth of knowledge were held inside the small walls. Yes. Johnny did love books. He took his time perusing the shelves, the scent of the parchment filling his head in a most delightful way as he picked up different tomes to read their covers. He had been in there for at least half an hour already, and found at least fifty books he would love to purchase, but alas, though mummy and daddy were rich, he didn't have enough wizard money on him to satisfy his cravings.
Promising himself that he would return for them, he finally dragged himself away and over to the counter, where a young girl stood, pre-packing sets of books. "Those aren't for seventh year, by any chance?" he asked, blue eyes still unable to keep from roving over the nearby shelves as he spoke. It was probably a little bit rude to not give her his full attention, but he couldn't help it. She laughed a little, and nodded. "You're in luck," she told him happily. "Is it just the one set you wanted?"
Johnny nodded back, still not looking at her. "Please." His fingers found the pouch of money in his jeans pocket and worked four Galleons out of their own accord, as Johnny was too busy scanning the books stacked next to the counter, a frown of intrigue etched into his handsome face. "Can you order books from here to be delivered to Hogwarts?" he asked, only having just thought of the idea. He knew normal Muggle book stores delivered, so why not magical ones? And why had he never thought to ask this before? Bringing his eyes up to the girl for the first time since he had been talking to her, he studied her handiwork as she freshly wrapped a pile of books for him, taking his money and popping it into the till as she spoke.
"We can," she told him. "Or at least, I think we can. I haven't been working here that long, but I would assume so. I can check for you if you like. Or get an owl sent out to you with details when I find out." She offered a beaming smile, and Johnny couldn't help but return it. It was no wonder she had gotten a job here. She seemed so polite and friendly and efficient, he found himself agreeing, despite his impatience to know right away. "Yeah, ok. That's great," he nodded again as his eyes began to drift off to the shelves again. "Thank you." He was sure she said something in response, but Johnny had already zoned out, probably about to take another half hour to get back across the room to the door.
