Now, intelligent as he was, Roux wasn't one of those people to "oooh", and "ahhh", over books. He had read a fair few in his time, sure, but he didn't get a magnificent thrill out of shopping in Flourish and Blotts. The shelves were crooked and rickety, and it always had a musty scent in the air, which Roux could do without. Letting out an uncontrollable sneeze as he walked through the door, he glanced up at the bell above him, waiting for it to finish jingling. He had forgotten about that. It was always a little embarrassing, in Roux's opinion, to have your presence announced as soon as you enter a room. He would prefer to sneak in quietly, given the choice.
Smoothing his deep green t-shirt down, self-consciously, he gazed about at the shop's patrons, offering small smiles here and there and slowly working his way through the shelves. It wasn't as crowded as it had been last time he was here, and Roux was grateful for this. It meant he could, one) get in and out relatively fast, and two) avoid too many stares as his tall frame wove this way and that across the room. He was hard to miss, really, and that wasn't so much of a problem for him at school, when he was among his peers, but when it drew the attention of adults... Roux just felt uncomfortable. Awkward. He didn't like the feeling. Besides, back in Paris, people didn't stare so much. They tended to just carry on with what they were doing and mind their own business. England was definitely a lesson in openness.
Seeing a girl behind the counter, Roux grinned eagerly and zoomed over to her before she could get away. "Hello?" he called, loping across the shop and waving one arm to catch her attention before she wandered off. "Hi?" Smiling a dazzling smile at her, he came to a halt at the counter. "I would like a set of school books for my seventh year, please," he informed her, sounding a little too urgent in his request. He cleared his throat, eyes dropping to the floor. He really hadn't meant to sound so pushy, he was just eager to finish shopping and go home to see his friends.
Reaching under the counter, the girl pulled out a pre-packed bundle of books with a flourish. "That'll be four Galleons, please," she told him as she put the books carefully into a brown paper bag for him. Roux rooted in his pocket for the money and handed it over, trying not to throw the coins at her hurriedly. He twitched a little as she took her time putting the money in the till, trying his best to appear calm and patient. It wouldn't do to gain a reputation as being rude. Taking the bag into his arms at a leisurely pace, he thanked the girl and turned to make his way out of the shop.
