At the age of ten, a month and a half before her eleventh birthday, Isabel was even more shy than she would be at the age of sixteen. Unbearably so, in fact. She was practically on the verge of tears as she stood in the long ante-chamber and listened to Professor McGonagall's words, not really taking any of it in. According to her sister, all she had to do was sit on a stool when her name was called, and put a hat on her head.
That all sounded pretty simple to Izzy, but the thought of standing up there in front of the whole school... on her own... was just... horrendous. Trying to stop herself from visibly shaking, she managed to tense every limb, to the point where she look ridiculously stiff, but wasn't trembling all over, which, in her eyes, was much better.
Following the rest of the new students out into the great hall, she couldn't help the gasp that escaped her ruby lips as her eyes came to rest on the Enchanted Ceiling. It was... beyond magnificent. The rain outside was mimicked perfectly above them, the droplets of grey water fading from existence after falling only a few feet from the great height of the Great Hall's ceiling. It was mesmerizing, and she found the time flying past as she watched in awe, as her favourite weather fell inside the castle, like she had so wished it would do at home for most of her life.
Before too long, she heard her name called out, loud and clear across the voluminous room. Her heart leaped into her throat as she snapped out of her trance and looked around for the first time, realizing that everybody was staring at her, waiting for her to do something. Wrapping her fingers into the ends of her loose hair, she gave her big sister a worried glance, before hurrying across to the stool and sitting down on it, pulling the tatty old Sorting Hat firmly down onto her shiny dark locks.
