Lily headed for the wand shop first thing after visiting Gringotts Wizarding Bank and saw 'Ollivander's, Makers Of Fine Wands Since 382 B. C.' on the front. Lily's eyes widened. "Wow, that's amazing." she thought aloud and walked in, the door chiming behind her.
Inside the walls are lined floor to ceiling with thousands of narrow boxes, which Lily could not take her eyes from. While she was searching the rows upon rows of narrow boxes, which must hold wands, she supposed, a man appeared out of the thin air. How strange, she thought, looking the haggard old man, who looked as if he was weary, with misty silver eyes. It was such an unusual set of eyes she couldn't help but think and the man chuckled.
"Ah, I thought you would come by soon. Your father's wand, an extraordinary wand to say the least, made of holly, eleven inches long, supple. Made from a single phoenix feather. Very powerful. Your mother's on the other hand is a lovely rosewood, ten inches long, willowy, with a single unicorn hair. Now my dear, lets see, lets see. . ." he said excitedly before turning away from her.
"Lets see. . . ah yes, how about this? Silver fir, thestral hair, twelve inches, nice and supple?" he said, placing the wand in her hands, and Lily was at a loss at what to do with it, but before she could even think about moving it, it was gone, replaced with another, and another, then another!
Before long, two piles of wands had appeared on his front desk. Instead of being disappointed, Mr. Ollivander was delighted, and kept on handing her wands, just to have it disappear from her hands!
Tricky customer, tricky customer. Ah, well, why not? Its like her grandmother's. . ." he said and pulled a light colored wand out of another box. "Here, try this one." he said, placing it in her hands. Almost instantly, she felt a warmth spread to her fingertips and gold sparks burst from the wand like a firework. "Yes, yes! That's the one for you. Hmm, how curious. . . curious indeed."
Lily looked a little tired but perked up at Ollivander's curious words. "Sorry, but what's curious?" she asked, putting her wand on a nearby chair so as to not get them mixed up as she started to help Ollivander with the wands, but was waved away.
"Its curious because this wand, in essance, is your grandmother's very wand. When I visited the place, her wand rolled off of the ripped floorway and hit me over the head. I decided to keep it with me, or I should say rather that the wand wanted me to keep it for another day. I had planned to give it to Mr. Potter, but alas, except for the first time we met, I had not seen him until I was under duress. But no matter." he said with a mysterious smile. "This should serve you very well in charms." he added and she paid (12 galleons) for her wand, off for her school robes.
