Avery Willow Starling was born to Christiane Rivalland, from a magical French-Mauritian family, and Arthur Starling, a muggle born wizard from Hampshire. She was the first born of four children for the happy couple who later had another two daughters and a still born son.
From an early age, Avery showed signs of magic, something that pleased both her magical parents, even though her father had been from a muggle family, he was quite well adapt at magic. He had attended Hogwarts while her mother had been a student of Beauxbatons, sailing to Africa from Mauritius and staying with relatives in France. It was on a holiday to England when she met Arthur and became quite close friends. They became pen pals and eventually fell in love. When the question of where they were going to live arose it was simple, a small hamlet that Christiane loved, the hamlet she had first met Arthur, Colbury, Hampshire, England.
Their three bedroom home was perfect for the two of them and almost complete when they had Avery. It was a very happy home for very to grow up in and she never had a bad memory of the place, even with her siblings, Avery never fought. She learned to share real quick and was very protective of her sisters as they grew up.
Never having had a brother to grow up around, her father was her main role model and in a house of other girls, she was very much the girly one, dressing up her sisters in clothes she thought they would look good in when they were younger and occasionally still doing it to this day. But like a girly girl, Avery had a soft spot for all things cute and cuddly.
Avery's love of animals started when she saw some wild rabbits in the fields across from the family home, the family home that had to be renovated, mainly with magic and done very carefully so as not to arouse suspicion from muggles, to fit them all in. The next couple of days Avery couldn't stop her childish ramblings about the subject of fluffy grey things with big ears and so her father went to the village of Ashurst and got her a pet rabbit that she named Rabbit.
After Rabbit came Blue, another rabbit and after Blue came along, it was found out that Rabbit was not a boy as first thought but a girl. Blue and Rabbit were separated as Rabbit had her young but sadly, Rabbit died. Regardless of their mothers death, the young rabbits lived. Avery and her parents saw to it that the baby rabbits were kept warm and fed and they lived inside the house until they were old enough to be outside. The boys all in one hutch and the girls in the other.
The next few pets for Avery were guinea pigs followed by half a dozen chickens. All though her parents did most of the work, Avery was always by their sides to help with feeding the gradually growing pet farm. After rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens, all the same year there was a break while Avery's first sister was born. The year following saw more chickens and a pony for the young animal enthusiast. Avery loved her Bluebell and learnt to ride pretty fast, graduating onto a full sized horse called Mutley when she was nine. By the time Avery received her Hogwarts letter, she had another sister, more chickens, three dogs and a cat. Life at the Starling house was never boring.
Starling attended Hogwarts and was enthused with her new environment. She became a Gryffindor and studied like mad during the school terms so that when she was home, she could look after her animals. First night home from Hogwarts every holidays she always did any homework that she hadn't already done on the train home, this meant that she had plenty of time to exercise her pets and spend quality time with them, especially Mutley who she would ride every day of the holidays. Leaving home was always such sweet sorrow. She was intrigued to learn more about magic but she missed her pets and her parents but soon, Care of Magical Creatures became a big part of her life when she chose it as an option in her third year.
After graduating from Hogwarts in her seventh year, Avery took with her three O's in Care of Magical Creatures, Charms and Transfiguration. The rest of her subject's she got E's. After her Hogwarts graduation Avery started to travel. Her first stop was New Zealand, where she spent time travelling and doing adventures, bungee jumping, white water rafting and spending time caring for sick muggle animals as well as magical ones. Before she left however, she met a guy she had a brief fling with, the guy turned out to be a Quidditch player for the New Zealand Quidditch team. She left New Zealand and a piece of her heart with him.
Her next stop was Australia wandering the bush and working in an animal hospital. She learnt a lot of things and stayed in Australia for six years, caring for animals, doing what she loved and taking adventures with aboriginals, tourists and random strangers she met at youth hostels. Her favourite part of Australia was the Great Barrier Reef with all its tropical fish.
After Australia was America, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia, western Europe and back to the UK, spending time exploring at home, but no matter where she went, Avery always found work to do with animals, paying her way by working in animal hospitals, magical and muggle.
By the time she was twenty-nine, having spent ten years travelling the globe, Avery had finished travelling the world, she was happy at home and as much as she liked to travel she would be happy to just do it in the summer, in the mean time however, rumour had spread that Professors Hagrid and Grubbly-Plank had given up their joint positions of Care Of Magical Creatures after Rubeus had decided to stick to caring for the grounds and Wilhelmina had decided on retirement. Avery put in her resume, lesson plans and such to Professor McGonagall and had an interview with the headmistress. Before she knew it Avery had her own classroom, fun lessons that students talked about with enthusiasm and was refereed to as professor Starling.
Recently the job of Slytherin head of house has opened up and Avery has applied for the position. She's bubbly, outgoing, adventurous and cunning, trying to get what it is she wants. She has a very competitive nature that usually only comes out in games and such, but when it comes to applying for jobs, she'll do anything she can to get the position she wants if she feels suitable for it. Despite having been a Gryffindor in school, she feels the Slytherin Head of house should be her because she believes she can lift some of the dark aura surrounding the house and feels it's necessary to unite the house yet try and thin out those pure blood idealisms that so many of the students have inherited from their parents.
