-past-
The boat trip across the giant lake was amazing to Molly. The sky was beautiful , the castle stunning and the water freezing cold. She'd wished she could have gone for a quick swim but that would have been a little absurd. She had to be sorted into her house and she didn't want to be shivering and wet when that happened. No, she was looking forward to being sorted and she couldn't wait to find out the house she would be staying in.
Leaving the boats and being ushered upstairs, Molly waited with her fellow classmates. There was chatter and Molly stood by her sisters side. The Professor called them through and the all walked from the room through the great hall, past all the other students and waited when instructed.
Molly looked about anxiously. She could see her cousin Albus near by, ready to be sorted too, and her cousin Rose. She was glad she would not be starting school alone. She had family that she thought she was quite close to, but how close they would stay with possibly different houses and different friends? Molly wasn't sure but she hoped they would all stay close.
The wait took forever, the hat sang a song and then everybody was sorted alphabetically. Her cousin Albus was sorted at some point and then her sister Lucy. Molly took a deep breath as her sister made her way to the cheering table. Then her own name was called.
Molly felt as if the whole world had stopped. She was just eleven and all she could feel were the eyes of everyone in the hall watching her. Was she going to be in Gryffindor, like most of her family had been from generations past? Or was she going to be a Ravenclaw like her mother had been? Or was she going to go a different course? Hufflepuff for her maybe? Or Slytherin? Molly couldn't wait to be sorted, but at the same time she was worried that things wouldn't go to plan.
The hat fell down upon her head the second she sat down on the stool. The rim came down to her nose and she closed her eyes, unable to see anything anyway. Silently she waited, her hands clasped in her lap as she slowly took deep breaths, waiting for the verdict of the talking hat.
